Every great dancer starts somewhere, and First Law Fundamentals is your launchpad into the world of West Coast Swing! π Weβll introduce you to the fundamental physics of WCS, helping you develop a strong foundation in posture, connection, and lead-follow dynamics. Whether youβre taking your first steps or refining your basics, weβll give you the tools to build effortless movement and musicality from the ground up.
β¨ No partner? No problem! Come solo or bring a friend β we rotate partners during the lesson, so everyone gets a chance to dance and connect! π€

The floor is yours! πΆ Put your new skills into action and dance the night away with a welcoming community of Westies. Our DJ spins a vibrant mix of music that keeps you inspired β from pop and blues to R&B and modern hits. Whether youβre practicing your basics, experimenting with new moves, or just soaking in the energy, this is your space to connect, groove, and grow! π₯ππΊ

What is West Coast Swing?
West coast is a modern swing dance that derives from Lindy Hop and Hustle. It is commonly danced to Pop, Rock, Funk, Blues, and Jazz. See the following video a great summary.

Do you offer beginner lessons?
Yes, beginners are welcome. No experience is required.
Do I need a partner?
Nope! Dance partners arenβt necessary for attending our events.
Do I need special shoes?
Many dancers wear shoes with velvet or suede bottoms, but these are not required We recommend flat shoes such as ballet flats, loafers, or sneakers with loose grip bottoms, closed backs, and laces. Though, on rainy or snowy days, we do ask that you bring a separate, clean pair of shoes to keep our dance floor dry & salt-free.
Is it family-friendly event?
Minors (14+ recommended) must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older and the legal guardian must register on behalf of the minor before participating. We do our best to limit explicit music, but we cannot guarantee that nothing will slip past. If you are okay with bringing, and accompanying, the minor, we are would love to have you both join us!
Where do I enter?
Use “Door 1” β look for our A-frame sign just outside the entrance.
Where do I park?
The venue has two dedicated lots accessed from Market Street and the alley, plus free street parking. During First Fridays in summer, parking can be more limited β additional street parking may be available a few blocks away
Is it handicap accessible?
Yes! If you need handicap access, please notify us in advance so we can open the accessible entrance in the alley lot. Weβre happy to help!
