Dance CoLab Code of Conduct

Applies To: Dance CoLab classes, socials, workshops, private or group lessons, events, check-in areas, online spaces, communications, and related activities.

This Code of Conduct explains the behavior expected at Dance CoLab events and activities.

Dance CoLab is intended to be a welcoming, respectful, safe, and enjoyable dance community. By attending, registering, purchasing a ticket, volunteering, teaching, assisting, observing, or participating in a Dance CoLab activity, you agree to follow this Code of Conduct.

This Code of Conduct is part of the Dance CoLab policy bundle and should be read together with our Waiver & Release of Liability, Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy, and Refund & Cancellation Policy.

Dance CoLab expects attendees to treat each other with respect, ask for and respect consent, follow staff directions, use safe movement, maintain appropriate hygiene, and help create a positive dance environment.

Dance CoLab may warn, remove, suspend, or ban anyone who violates this Code of Conduct or creates a safety concern.

All attendees are expected to treat others with kindness, patience, and respect.

You agree not to harass, threaten, bully, insult, intimidate, pressure, stalk, shame, or intentionally embarrass another person.

Dance CoLab welcomes dancers of different backgrounds, ages, experience levels, learning styles, body types, and dance goals. Everyone is expected to help maintain a friendly and respectful environment.

Consent matters in dance.

You agree to:

• Ask before dancing with someone when appropriate
• Accept “no” gracefully
• Respect when someone declines a dance, ends a dance, or asks for space
• Avoid pressuring someone to dance, continue dancing, rotate partners, or interact
• Respect physical, emotional, and social boundaries
• Stop a movement or behavior when asked
• Avoid unwanted touching, closeness, comments, flirting, or attention

A person does not owe anyone a dance, explanation, hug, conversation, phone number, social media contact, or continued interaction.

You are responsible for dancing with reasonable care.

You agree to:

• Dance at a speed, size, and intensity appropriate for the room
• Avoid dangerous, reckless, or uncontrolled movements
• Protect your partner’s balance, comfort, and safety
• Avoid forcing dips, drops, lifts, tricks, or weight-sharing movements
• Avoid movements that could hit, trip, pull, yank, twist, or injure another person
• Be aware of surrounding dancers, walls, chairs, bags, speakers, and floor conditions
• Modify or stop dancing if the floor is crowded
• Follow instructor and staff safety instructions

Do not perform lifts, aerials, drops, or other high-risk movements unless specifically allowed by Dance CoLab staff for that event or class.

In partner dancing, both people should feel safe and respected.

You agree not to:

• Grip, squeeze, pull, push, yank, or force your partner
• Ignore signs that your partner is uncomfortable
• Force close embrace, body contact, dips, tricks, or styling
• Use teaching, correcting, or coaching as an excuse to control another dancer
• Give unsolicited correction unless the setting clearly allows it
• Blame, shame, mock, or criticize someone’s skill level
• Use dance connection in a sexual, coercive, aggressive, or inappropriate way

Feedback should be kind, appropriate, and welcome.

Dance CoLab does not allow harassment or inappropriate conduct.

This may include:

• Unwanted touching
• Sexual comments or jokes
• Repeated unwanted invitations
• Invasive questions
• Following or cornering someone
• Threats or intimidation
• Bullying or humiliation
• Discriminatory comments
• Retaliation against someone who reports a concern
• Recording or photographing someone in a way that is invasive or inappropriate
• Conduct that makes the event unsafe, hostile, or uncomfortable

Dance CoLab may take action even if behavior does not fit neatly into one category.

Because dance involves close contact, attendees are expected to maintain reasonable hygiene.

You agree to:

• Wear clean clothing
• Use deodorant or other personal care as needed
• Avoid strong odors when possible
• Bring extra shirts if needed
• Wash or sanitize hands as appropriate
• Avoid attending if knowingly contagious or significantly ill

Dance CoLab may speak privately with an attendee if hygiene becomes a concern.

Please do not attend Dance CoLab activities if you are knowingly contagious, have symptoms of a contagious illness, or have been advised to avoid group activities.

Dance CoLab may ask an attendee to leave or not participate if they appear significantly ill or create a health concern for others.

Attendees may not participate while dangerously impaired or unable to dance safely.

Dance CoLab may deny participation or remove an attendee if staff believe the person is impaired, unsafe, disruptive, or unable to follow instructions.

Illegal drugs are not allowed at Dance CoLab activities.

Venue-specific alcohol rules must be followed.

Minor participants are expected to follow the same conduct standards as adult participants.

A parent or legal guardian may be required to complete forms, provide contact information, and determine whether the event is appropriate for the minor.

Dance CoLab may limit, condition, or deny minor participation depending on the event, venue, supervision needs, safety concerns, or activity type.

Adults are expected to use appropriate judgment when interacting with minors.

Dance CoLab events may include photography or video for promotional, educational, archival, website, social media, or community purposes.

Attendees may not use photography, video, or social media in a way that harasses, embarrasses, targets, misrepresents, or invades the privacy of another person.

If someone asks you not to photograph, record, tag, or post them, please respect that request when reasonably possible.

Dance CoLab may restrict photography or recording at certain events, classes, or moments.

You agree to follow reasonable instructions from Dance CoLab staff, instructors, volunteers, assistants, venue staff, security, or event representatives.

This may include instructions related to:

• Check-in
• Ticket verification
• Waiver completion
• Class rotation
• Floor safety
• Event schedule
• Room capacity
• Photography
• Music or sound
• Venue rules
• Health or safety concerns
• Conduct issues

Failure to follow directions may result in removal or denial of participation.

If you experience or witness unsafe, inappropriate, or concerning behavior, please tell Dance CoLab staff as soon as reasonably possible.

Reports may involve:

• Safety concerns
• Harassment
• Boundary violations
• Injury or near-injury
• Repeated unwanted attention
• Inappropriate conduct
• Venue issues
• Code of Conduct violations

Dance CoLab will review concerns based on the information available and may take action at its discretion.

Dance CoLab does not allow retaliation against someone for raising a concern, making a report, participating in a review, or setting a boundary.

Retaliation may include threats, harassment, social pressure, exclusion, rumor-spreading, intimidation, or attempts to punish someone for reporting.

Dance CoLab may take action when staff believe it is reasonably necessary to protect safety, comfort, trust, or the integrity of the community.

Actions may include:

• Conversation or reminder
• Warning
• Partner rotation adjustment
• Class or event restriction
• Denial of check-in
• Removal from an event
• Suspension from future events
• Permanent ban
• Cancellation of tickets or account access
• Contacting venue staff, security, or emergency services when appropriate

Dance CoLab may act immediately if there is a safety concern.

Refunds are not guaranteed when an attendee is denied entry, removed, suspended, or banned due to conduct, safety, policy violations, incomplete waiver requirements, invalid tickets, or failure to follow staff instructions.

Refund questions are handled under the Dance CoLab Refund & Cancellation Policy.

Dance CoLab may update this Code of Conduct from time to time.

The version posted on the Dance CoLab website will apply unless a specific event, registration, or policy acknowledgment uses a different posted version.

For waiver and policy agreement records, Dance CoLab may retain the version accepted at the time of submission.
